10 Best WhatsApp Features You Should Know

Hi Senyor!

Looking for ways to get more from WhatsApp on your Android phone or iPhone? We got your back! For example, a new setting was recently introduced that will automatically delete your messages after a week. It’s a Snapchat-like feature, sure, but who says it’s not welcome in other apps? You can even format the text you send in a message, adding some fun to a boring conversation.
Or how about using WhatsApp on your computer? Yes, it is possible. It’s also easy to set up and use. Below you will find tips on all kinds of many unknown features and tricks in WhatsApp.

Format your text to juice up your messages

WhatsApp allows you to bold, italicize or underline text instantly. To do this, you need to add a few special characters before and after the text you want to format. Use an asterisk (*bold*) to bold text in WhatsApp; italicize text with underscore (_italic_); You can create strikethrough text with a tilde (~ strikethrough~).

Make your messages disappear

WhatsApp is currently introducing a new feature that lets you unlock disappearing messages for certain conversations. Once enabled, all your messages will evaporate from the chat after seven days. Open Disappearing Messages by tapping the name of the person or conversation at the top of your screen. Select Disappearing Messages from the list of options, then tap Open. Note that all images you send or receive are automatically saved on your or the recipient’s phone; therefore, the actual image can be saved while the photo message disappears.

Star a message so you can find it easily later

Adding a star to a message is a convenient way to get back to a meaningful message, phone number, address, or article link a friend sent you. Long press the message, then tap the “star” icon. A small star icon will be placed next to the message so you can easily see it as you navigate through your conversation. You can also view your starred messages on iPhone by going to the Settings tab and selecting Starred Messages. Android users need to tap the Menu button and then Starred Messages.

Free up storage to see who you talk to the most

Wondering who your best friend is on WhatsApp? It is very easy to learn.

On your iPhone or Android phone, go to Settings > Storage & Data > Manage Storage. A contact list will be created based on who is using the most storage space on your phone. Tap on each contact to view more detailed statistics such as the number of messages sent, pictures and GIFs.

WhatsApp’s new-looking storage section makes it easy to get rid of large files taking up space on your phone and gives you a way to see who you’re chatting with the most.

View message details

Have you ever wondered when a message was delivered or read? Swipe left on a sent message to view this information on your iPhone. Android users can long press the message, tap the menu button, and then the letter “i” in the top right.

Mute your conversations

When entering a movie or meeting, use WhatsApp’s mute feature to silence a chatty group chat or a friend who doesn’t realize you’re busy. Android users can long-press on a chat, then tap the strikethrough speaker icon at the top of the screen. iPhone users can hold the conversation and swipe left, then tap the three-dot button, then Mute. You can choose to mute for 8 hours, a week, or forever.

Hide your last seen

Sometimes knowing that people can see when you were last online takes a lot of pressure and it feels like you have to respond to messages waiting for you. You don’t want your friends or random people to know your “Last Seen” time? Open Settings > Account > Privacy > Last Seen. Then choose from Everyone, My Contacts, or Nobody.

Disable read receipts

You can go one step further and disable read receipts on WhatsApp.

This will prevent other users from knowing whether you have read a message or not. Open Settings > Account > Privacy and uncheck the box or slide the lock next to Read Receipts to Off.

Important: Turning this feature off also prevents you from seeing when a friend has read your message. However, Group Chats will continue to use read receipts.

Do not automatically save photos, videos

If you don’t want WhatsApp to save every photo and video sent to you to your camera roll, taking up space and messing with your own photos, disable auto-save. On iPhone, open Settings > Chats and turn off Save to Camera Roll.

On Android, go to Settings > Chats and turn off Media Visibility.
